PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla., Feb. 16, 2021 /PRNewswire/ -- Two global leaders in the healthy building movement have agreed to collaborate to strengthen and accelerate market transformation to healthy buildings. The International WELL Building Institute (IWBI), the world's leading organization focused on deploying people first places to advance a global culture of health, and Carrier Global Corporation (NYSE: CARR), a founding member of IWBI and a leading global provider of healthy, safe, and sustainable building and cold chain solutions, intend to join forces to advance industry engagement globally through education about and encouragement of the adoption of healthy building practices.
The coronavirus pandemic has affected more than 46 million people worldwide and still causing new infections daily. The pandemic has brought unprecedented impact to trade, lifestyles, and especially the use of buildings. As we struggle to understand coronavirus transmission and corresponding risks and mitigations in buildings, many buildings from schools, offices, commercial and public facilities were shut down for months. Even as we gradually reopen buildings and resume economic activity, defining confident policies and protocols for a safe environment remains a challenging task.
The global spread of COVID-19 and challenges in return-to-work efforts have highlighted HVAC, particularly ventilation and air-conditioning, as crucial first line of defense in providing safe environments and limiting the transmission of COVID-19. The IWBI Task Force on COVID-19 Town Hall on July 2nd was an effort by experts supporting this global transition back to the new normal to share lessons learned, best practices, and perspectives, and help prepare a global audience for a safer and more smooth transition back to work and life routines. The webcast saw over a hundred participants and included rich content sharing and lively Q&A.
